Preschool Music Activities
|
|
Preschool music is such a fun and exciting way for children to learn. Go get your kids singing, moving and grooving.
My little tip
If you want to spice things up, try making up new words to favorite songs or adding fun actions.
|

Drum Fun
Take two paper plates and fill one with beans, then glue or staple the other plate on the top.
Give each child a paper plate drum and two popsicle sticks. Let them color their drums.
Play a variety of music and let the children play along.
Homemade Preschool Music Instruments
You can make a drum with anything that has a lid or your child can hit with a spoon.
Maracas can be made from toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls. Tape closed one end, fill with beans and tape the other end closed.
Little bells are also great for making music.
Island Dance Party
Have the children make their lei necklace. For fun, put up decorations and have some tropical fruit for the children to try.
Play some island music to dance to. My Hawaiian Lei Necklace is a fun addition.
Mini Guitars
To make the mini guitar, take a toilet paper roll, cut two slices on the top.
Slide a rubber band in the two slices and pull to the bottom to make it tight. For fun, you can cut more slices and add more rubber
bands. Let your child color the guitar. Then play different types of guitar music and let him play along.
Music Freeze
Have your child dance to music or act like an animal. When the music stops have him freeze, then start
the music again. You can try this fun variation: give your child a blanket and have him run around while the music is playing.
When the music stops he has to hide under the blanket. I told my kids they were jungle creatures and to run and play but
when the music stops the alligator is coming and they need to hide. Then I go tickle them. They LOVE it. There are so many fun and creative ways to play freeze.
Old MacDonald's Farm
Have your child choose an animal. When you sing the chorus of "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," have fun acting like the chosen animal.
Preschool Music Band
Help your child make instruments or use real ones. Let him decide what songs he wants to play for his concert.
You can make programs, treats, back drops, and bring stuffed animals to watch. If you can, record it so he
can watch or listen to it later.
Word Movers
Choose a word that is sung often in a song. Decide on something your child can do when he hears that word:
clap, jump, wiggle, stomp feet, stick out his tongue or whatever he wants. Sing or listen to the song and have him do the
actions when he hears that word.
